It’s been another notorious and brutal winter in Western New York.  The snow, ice, and other cold elements have wreaked havoc on our vehicles this past season.  Hopefully, you’ve had a few high-quality snow tires on your car to prevent any major damage, but it’s time that you switch them out for spring.

As temperatures slowly start to rise, you may be asking yourself:  is it time to remove my snow tires yet? According to a member of the Canadian Automobile Association, it’s best to wait until temperatures are consistently above 44°F before trading winter tires for all-seasons. Keep an eye on the weather forecast in your area, and make sure there’s no major snowstorms in the upcoming forecast. Once the majority of snow has melted and the days warm up into the low and mid 40s, you are ready to switch back to your all-season tires.

In Western New York, that time of year doesn’t come until late March/early April.  While it’s certainly possible that the snow is not completely done messing with us just yet, even after spring has finally sprung, you want to avoid waiting too long to remove your winter tires. We might even experience some warmer spring days getting into the 70s.

Winter tires are made of a softer rubber, which simply does not perform as well on warm or hot pavement. In fact, the rubber tends to become very soft on a hot day and your winter tires will wear out fairly quickly.  Additionally, softer tires create more drag and road resistance overall. This added friction requires more power to move the vehicle – which causes reduced gas mileage.

As the days start to warm up, be mindful of other issues that tend to occur during this time of year.  Potholes continue to be a major issue, and hitting them can cause significant damage to various parts of your car, especially your tires, alignment, and suspension. In addition, daily temperature changes can make the roads a little more unpredictable and drivers need to maintain constant vigilance to avoid problems.  The roads may be slightly icier for the morning commute, wet with the warmer afternoon temperatures, and very icy as the temperature drops again at night.

We extend our thanks and gratitude to our community for your incredible support throughout the recent fire vandalism incident near our service and installation area of our garage.

Until our facility is completely repaired, we have decided to continue selling tires via carry out by partnering with Vail Automotive located at 757 South Ave. in Rochester to handle all installations of tires we sell, cash & carry. Vail Automotive is located only .5 miles from Hooper's Tire Outlet.

Additionally, we also offer transportation of the tires once purchased from Hooper's Tire directly to Vail Auto for installation. We are discounting every tire we sell for $17 (installation cost) which will be paid directly to Vail Automotive by you. Vail Automotive accepts cash or credit for installation & old tire disposal costs. All tires still come guaranteed!

Hooper's Tire appreciates your support with the continued business while we rebuild from this unfortunate event.

Our current hours of operation during reconstruction are Monday through Friday 9:00am-4:30pm. Weekends Closed. Call or text 585-773-4335 for availability.
